Swain Names Squad for Victory Shield Opener

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn adds valuable experience to a fairly young England squad

England Under 16s manager Kenny Swain has named his squad for the Young Lions Sky Sports Victory Shield opener against Northern Ireland in October.

The lads have won the competition for the previous eleven years and Swain will be keen to start with a win as they look to defend the title.

Angus Gunn and Ruben Loftus-Cheek remain in the squad from last season. Ashley Brown-Smith and Mason Bennett both starred in the Nordic Tournament to give a little taste of experience to an otherwise inexperienced squad.

The boys will be all keen to prove their worth as they take the first steps towards a fledging international career.

Swain believes that all areas of the squad are covered this year as opposed to other years when midfielders and strikers have outweighed goalkeepers and defenders or vice versa.

  1. I’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.
