England Under 16s kicked off their Montaigu Tournament campaign with a 1-1 draw against Japan.
The Asian nation scored in the last minute to secure what seemed to be a victory but England hit back in stoppage time to salvage a draw.
The game was relatively tight throughout and the game looked to be heading towards a goalless draw but Japan took the lead when Taro Sugimoto struck in the 79th minute.
However, England struck back in stoppage time when a spell of pressure saw Max Clark’s effort rebounding off the crossbar but the Japanese goalkeeper could only see it out for a corner. From the resulting set piece, Callum Jones of West Bromwich Albion climbed highest to head home England’s equaliser.
England are next in action against Morrocco on Thursday evening.
