Tottenham Bow Out Of NextGen Series In 8 Goal Thriller

article-0-18D1F00C000005DC-805_634x443Atud Fokobo put the icing on the cake with a superb 45-yard strike for Sporting Lisbon as they knocked Tottenham Hotspur out of the NextGen Series, winning 5-3 at the Matchroom Stadium.

The quarter final match had to be taken to extra time after Spurs made an impressive comeback but Sporting proved too much and ran away with the tie in the extra period.

Alberto Coelho put the visitors in front after just six minutes when he controlled a long ball and dispatched beautifully with a neat chip into the net.

Nathan Oduwa got on the end of a corner to see Spurs level only two minutes later but Ricardo Esgagio’s cross found Coelho and Sporting were soon ahead again.

Ruben Semedo netted from the spot to further increase Sporting’s lead after Joao Palhinha was fouled.

Laste Dombaxe started Tottenham’s comeback with a penalty and the scores were level when Roman Michael-Percil stabbed home.

Alexandre Guedes put Sporting back ahead in extra time before Fokobo put the win beyond doubt and send Sporting through to next week’s semi-finals.

  1. Err you failed to mention that the THFC goalkeeper had a real “off-day” and quite literally gave SL the game as on a good day the score would have 3-2 our favour. The fact that the young GK was heckled by a small group nonstop could have had something to do with this as the heckling was in French and what little I heard was disgusting and yes I was present at the match.
