Manchester United are tracking 19-year-old Egyptian midfielder Saleh Gomaa after his impressive performances at the recent African U20 Championship.

The report comes from Filgoal.com and the player of the tournament in Algeria told them: “I have been followed by a number of scouts including two from Granada and Manchester United.

“The Manchester United scout inquired about the possibility of having a trial with the club and he also asked me about ENPPI’s readiness for a potential transfer.”

Gomaa has been likened to ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso as a deep-lying playmaker as he led Egypt to victory in the recent tournament. He also featured for Egypt in the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“We welcome the notion of letting youngsters move abroad,” said ENPPI chairman Mohamed Badr.

“We received some inquiries regarding Saleh and Ahmed Refaat through intermediate companies, but we only deal with official bids from other clubs.

“Up until now there has been nothing of an official bid either for Saleh or Refaat.”
