VFL Wolfsburg’s Federico Palacios Martinez will move to RB Leipzig on a free transfer this summer.
In a bizarre move, Wolfsburg will be punished for not renewing the 18-year-old’s contract and he will leave in the same circumstances as Julian Brandt, who agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen.
Martinez has scored 29 goals in 14 appearances for Wolfsburg’s youth side this season, including a double hat-trick in an 8-2 win against Union Berlin.
“I can not understand. In the financial field, there were better deals. But he has assured me that there was no doubt,” said Wolfsburg manager Klaus Allofs.
“But we are sure to appeal to clear things. We want to encourage young players, but can not promise them that they are a regular player.”
Brandt joined up with Leverkusen at the start of the month after the German club beat Chelsea to the signing of the coveted youngster.
