Barclays U21 Premier League: Man United Qualify For Play Offs With Last Gasp Winner

Reading came into the fixture fresh off the back of their U21 Premier League Cup triumph.

A last-minute strike from Paddy McNair fired Manchester United into the Barclays U21 Premier League play-offs last night against Reading.

The Red Devils now have hope of retaining their crown after winning their must-win tie 3-2 at the Madejski Stadium.

James Wilson netted an early goal but strikes from Tariqe Fosu and Harry Cardwell put the Royals in control with just 11 minutes to go.

A defeat for United, even a draw, would have seen Fulham likely to qualify for the play-offs in their place.

But James Weir struck the equaliser with just nine minutes left and McNair grabbed the last gasp winner in the dying seconds to defeat the U21 Premier League Cup champions.

The victory means United will face Liverpool in the play-off semi finals at Anfield next week.

Top-of-the-table Chelsea will face either Manchester City or Fulham in the other semi-final. The Cottagers currently occupy fourth spot but Manchester City have a game in hand where they can bounce up to fourth. City play Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

  1. “The victory means Liverpool will face Liverpool in the play-off semi finals at Anfield next week.”

    That´s a bit suspicious…
