Argentina Stunned in Final Group

Edwin Cardona stands as the tournament's second-placed top goalscorer

Ecuador shocked Argentina by beating them 1-0 in the second group stage of Sudamericano.

A single goal from Edson Montano was enough to give Ecuador the victory which sees them second place in the group after one round of games.

Brazil top the final group as they thrashed Chile 5-1.

A double from wonderkid, Neymar started the huge victory and goals from Lucas, Willian and Diego Mauricio finished off a lacklustre Chile side.

Carasco pulled one back for Chile to make the score 1-1, but unfortunately for him his side were well beaten in the second half.

Elsewhere, host nation, Peru, narrowly missed out on qualification to the final stage. They were eliminated  only by goal difference to Uruguay, who finished equally on four points.

Uruguay played Colombia in the opening match of the final group stage and defeated them 1-0. A goal from Adrian Nicolas Luna just before half-time was enough to seal the victory for Uruguay.

Later today, favourites Brazil take on Colombia. Argentina will be looking to bounce back against an already-battered Chile outfit. And Uruguay take on Ecuador in this evening’s final match.

The date to look for in your calendar is the 6th February. Argentina play Brazil at 6pm english time and whoever comes out on top is sure to win the title.

If Argentina won though, they’d throw the group wide open after their first matchday defeat against Ecuador.

Neymar remains the competition’s top goalscorer with 7 to his name. I don’t think anyone has the ability or potential to match Neymar’s in this competition. He has been a stand-out star throughout and we will definitely be seeing him linked to a host of major European sides in weeks to come.

Edwin Cardona, not a household name, is second-placed in the top goalscoring charts with 4. The Colombia striker was named top scorer at the 2009 Under 17 South American Championships with 7 goals and is looking to emulate this form at one step higher. He currently plays for Colombian outfit, Atletico Nacionale and is sometimes used in the midfield role.
