Injuries Curse Under 21s

Five players have been withdrawn from the England Under 21s squad with injuries.

Jack Rodwell picked up a knock against Fulham on Saturday

Ahead of games with Iceland and Denmark, late knocks and bruises are taking their toll on the England side.

Jack Rodwell, Henri Lansbury, Gary Hooper, Alex Smithies and Mark Davies will not make the trip as they’ve picked up knocks.

Preparation for this summer’s Under 21 European Championship is vital but time is running out for Stuart Pearce’s side.

Gary Hooper was looking forward to making his debut but picked up an injury in his side’s Scottish League Cup Final defeat to Rangers on Sunday.

Rodwell picked up a slight knock against Fulham whilst playing for Everton on Saturday.

Lansbury and Smithies return to their clubs with slight injuries that will see them miss Thursday’s Denmark encounter.

Despite the withdrawals, Stuart Pearce will be selecting from a 26-man strong squad.

England will play Denmark in Viborg on Thursday before returning to Deepdale to play Iceland next Monday.
