Old Favourites Qualify for Final Stage

Brazil and Argentina are amongst the six teams qualified for the final stage of the South American Under 17 Championship.

Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay and Colombia join them in the final round which will start on 28th March.

The ties have already been decided despite one round still to play in the first group phase.

Brazil determined their fate with their opening two performances but suffered a 2-1 defeat to Paraguay in their third game.

Argentina have also made it through despite loosing to a late goal against Uruguay.

Ecuador currently top Group A but have Argentina breathing on their necks only one point behind them. The two sides will go together in the final game of the round to determine who claims top spot.

The situation is similar in Group B as Colombia top the table but face Brazil in their final game. Paraguay are also in with a shout of winning the group as they play Venezuela in their final group match.

Bolivia have already been eliminated from the tournament, but the current top scorer in the championships belongs to their strikeforce.

Robert Silva has scored four of Bolivia’s five goals including a hat-trick against Peru.

Although both suffering defeats in this round, I believe Brazil and Argentina have got to be the favourites, although I’d love to see someone like Colombia or Paraguay defy the odds and lift the trophy.
