Uruguay Hold Two Favourites

Uruguay celebrate two fantastic results

Uruguay drew with both Brazil and Argentina to make themselves real contenders in this year’s South American Under 17 Championship.

In the opening round of games in the final group stage, Uruguay held Brazil to a goalless draw.

In their second game, Argentina took the lead but Uruguay struck back only seven minutes later as Maximiliano Padilla put the ball in his own net.

The Uruguayians are currently 4th out of 6 teams but seem to have an easy run-in.

Argentina and Brazil occupy first and second place respectively and will play each other in the final match.

After two matches both teams have a goal difference of +1 but Argentina stand top thanks to their marginally better goal total.

Argentina beat Paraguay in their opener thanks to a 77th minute goal from Martin Benitez.

Matheus grabbed Brazil’s goal as they beat Colombia 1-0 in their second game after the Uruguay draw.

Elsewhere in the group, Ecuador drew their opening match with Colombia.

In the second round of games they contested a thrilling encounter with Paraguay but the points were shared once again.

Jonny Uchuari’s 83rd minute goal looked to have sealed a win for Ecuador but two minutes later Mauro Cabarello equalled the tally.

Luis Batioja for Ecuador and Sebastian Ovelar for Paraguay got the other goals in that game.

Later tonight, Uruguay face Paraguay looking to pick up their first win of the tournament despite two excellent results.

Brazil play Ecuador and Argentina face Colombia.
