Mario Goetze: Germany’s Greatest Prospect

Mario Goetze has been an integral part in Borussia Dortmund's title surge this season

Some of the most exciting prospects in recent years have derived from Germany’s youth systems.

Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira have all electrified audiences throughout the world.

But now there’s a new kid on the block wanting to emulate their success and make a lasting impression.

Mario Goetze is considered to be the most intriguing up-and-coming star Germany has seen in years.

Despite Mesut Ozil’s nomination for the FIFA Golden Ball, Goetze is widely expected to emulate and better Ozil’s potential and become one of the greatest stars alive.

Manchester United have been linked with the 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund player and seem desperate to bring him over the water.

Borussia Dortmund’s long-term development plan was implemented at the turn of the millennium, and although it has been a long wait they are now reaping the rewards.

Not only are they producing stars like Goetze, but they are on course to qualify for next year’s Champions League and qualify as the winners of the Bundesliga.

A string of bamboozling performances from Goetze have spearheaded that title charge. He has proved an integral part of the squad throughout the season with his undeniable creativity and his blistering speed.

The attacking midfielder has represented Germany at every level. He was part of the squad that won the 2009 Under 17 European Championship on home soil.

He made his senior debut against Sweden in November 2010 and since then has gone on to be a regular in Joachim Low’s selections.

With such a hype surrounding Goetze it would be too easy to get carried away, but this lad seems in no danger of doing that.

His only weakness, his physical and aerial ability, have been only minor in this seasons campaign. His first senior goal was a header, proving he is no pushover in that department.

We are sure to see so much more of Mario Goetze in the coming future.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he emulates the footsteps of Zidane, Ronaldo or Figo.

He is definitely one to bookmark for the future!

  1. Lofty praise to say he could emulate Zidane, Ronaldo or Figo!

United would do well to snap him up, been impressed with what I have seen of him who would you suggest for us though him or Sahin?

  2. Out of Goetze and Sahin, I would personally go for Sahin. Although Goetze looks more promising, Sahin is a proven quality midfielder and at 22, still has a lot left in him.

But on the wider front, I’d have neither. Instead I would use that money to buy a quality, top-class European midfielder with a proven track record in the Champions League.

Someone like Sneijder, Schweinsteiger or surprisingly I would try and snap up Joe Cole!

  3. I love Goetze and good article, but saying his first goal was a joke of a goal. Defense messed up big, his header didn’t prove anything that game. Just saying. Don’t lie to us.
