New Zealand Qualify for World Cup with Oceania Win

Chettleburgh celebrates his goal.

New Zealand have beaten the Solomon Islands in the Oceania Under 20 Championship to qualify for the World Cup in Colombia.

After a semi-final victory against Fiji, the hosts won 3-1 to secure their place in South America.

Solomon Islands defeated Vanuatu on penalties to reach the final whilst New Zealand thrashed Fiji 6-0.

Goals from Cory Chettleburgh, Andrew Bevin and Dakota Lewis couldn’t be cancelled out by Himson Teleda’s goal for the Solomon Islands.

Jean Kaltak of Vanuatu finished the tournament’s top goalscorer with six, thanks to two goals in the third place play-off in which Vanuatu convincingly beat Fiji 2-0, the same scoreline they beat them by in the group phase.

New Zealand will now represent Oceania at the FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Colombia.

You can stay with The Youth Radar throughout the tournament to follow their progress.
