England Under 19s Beat Montenegro

George Thorne couldn't find a way past the in-form Montenegro 'keeper Damir Ljuljanovic

England Under 19s have won their opening match of the European Under 19 Championships Elite Qualifying Round against Montenegro.

It was Harry Kane’s goal that proved enough to give England an opening victory in Switzerland.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker scored on 51 minutes after latching on to a neat ball by Thomas Ince and placed a lovely finish past the Montenegro goalkeeper, Damir Ljuljanovic.

Ljuljanovic was in top form throughout the game and if it wasn’t for him it could have been a walkover for the Young Lions. He denied Kane a second goal not long after the first and George Thorne had trouble on numerous occasions trying to get past the stopper.

England are left in second place after the victory due to their number of goals scored. Spain beat Switzerland 2-1 in the other group game and England will meet the Swiss in their next game before taking on Spain in their final game.

Only one team qualifies from the group so a win is of the upmost importance for England as they search for another youth side at a major tournament this summer.
