Tottenham Score Seven Versus Inter in NextGen Series

Tottenham Hotspur beat Inter Milan 7-1 in their second match of this year’s NextGen Series.

After an inspiring come-back against FC Basel last week, Spurs really didn’t expect this sort of result against a much-fancied Inter Milan side.

Surprisingly, Inter Milan started the brightest side and put immediate pressure on the Spurs defence in the opening five minutes. Despite their possession, Inter were then destroyed as Spurs grabbed three goals inside the next ten minutes. Alex Pritchard opened the scoring for Spurs on 7 minutes. Souleymane Coulibaly got the second five minutes later. Tomislav Gomelt got his first of what would end up to be a hat-trick on the 15 minute mark.

Before half-time, Coulibaly got his second and Gomelt completed his hat-trick.

Spurs could have came in 6-0 ahead at the break but their performance was marred by a red-card to hat-trick hero Tomislav Gomelt. He tripped an Inter player in the box and was shown an immediate red-card. Daniel Bessa converted the penalty but it wasn’t enough to give Inter any sort of boost for the remainder of the game.

One must wonder how many goals Tottenham could have scored if it wasn’t for them playing over 50 minutes with only 10 men. They managed one more goal after the sending off as Alex Pritchard grabbed his second of the game after 67 minutes.

Elsewhere in the NextGen Series and Tottenham’s group, Basel beat PSV Eindhoven 1-0 at home. Valmir Naifu got the only goal in that game.

Barcelona ran out 3-1 winners away at Celtic. Over 5,500 turned out to watch Barcelona’s world famous academy and despite seeing their side lose, they were not disappointed by the talent on show by the Spaniards. Cornejo scored after 17 minutes to give Barca the lead but Celtic equalised only a few minutes later through Watt. Gabarron and Dongou scored the remaining goals for Barcelona just before and after half-time.

In the final game, Sporting Lisbon defeated Wolfsburg 3-1. Sporting lay top of Group 3 after that second consecutive victory. Alberto Coelho opened the scoring minutes after missing a penalty. Maximilian Arnold got an equaliser for Wolfsburg but Chaby’s winner gave Sporting all three points.
