Peacock Names Squad for Algarve Tournament

John Peacock has selected his England Under 17 squad for next month’s Algarve Tournament in Portugal.

The annual tournament sees England face Portugal, France and Netherlands within the period of five days in a bid to retain the title that they last won in 2010.

The tournament kicks off on Thursday 2nd February when England take on the host nation.

The tournament is ideal preparation for the European Under 17 Championships Elite Qualifying Round, which takes place in late March where they’ll face Georgia, Ukraine and a tough Spain outfit.

The squad contains some faces that are slowly becoming household names.

Luke Shaw of Southampton makes the squad after widespread speculation that he could be leaving St Mary’s thanks to a string of impressive performances.

Mason Bennett, Derby County’s youngest ever player makes the list of strikers along with Devante Cole of Manchester City, son of the great Andy Cole.

This forward line is one to be feared and could prove troublesome for any defence they may come up against.

Diego Poyet, son of Gus, also remains in the squad from last season.
