India’s Bid To Host 2017 FIFA Under 17 World Cup Comes Under Fire

AIFF-logo_1India are hoping to host the 2017 FIFA Under 17 World Cup but their bid is shrouded in uncertainty as a letter from the All India Football Federation was rejected by FIFA.

The host nation has not been decided yet but India will be bidding. FIFA are concerned with the attempt to host the tournament and want to be assured of a few ‘guarantees’ from the Indian government.

“The government’s letter has been rejected by FIFA, they are asking for some guarantees from the government. We have then written to the government and they rejected it initially but we convinced them and sent the letter again, requesting them to go through it once again,” AIFF general secretary Kushal Das said.

“FIFA is asking for guarantees like securities, tax, broadcasting, etc…we will get to know by March,” Das added.

The next FIFA executive committee meeting will be held in March in Zurich, Switzerland. In the previous committee meeting in November, India’s bid was not discussed.

The AIFF submitted their bid within the deadline but during Jerome Valcke’s visit to India last year, he voiced concerns about the country meeting the strict criteria needed to host the tournament.
