The Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea are imminently sealing a deal for Chile Under-20 starlet Cristian Cuevas.

The Blues are described as being in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Chilean club O’Higgins for the 17-year-old.

The young midfielder has netted twice for the Chilean Under 20 side and is a regular for his club team.

Chelsea have been tracking the progress of Cuevas for a long while and are planning to bring him to their Cobham training ground next season.

Cuevas’ agent Mauricio Valenzuela said: “The negotiations are very advanced with Chelsea. We have been working on this for a while, the idea is that players can leave Chile and be successful. Chelsea have been following him for a couple of years, and the offer was made due to his good performances.”

Chelsea are apparently offering £2.2million for the youngster although O’Higgins are expecting nearer to the £3m mark.

Udinese are also interested in the midfielder.

He is expected to make the switch in July with Cuevas to be loaned out for more experience.
