England U16s first European trip of the season was a thrilling encounter as they took on old rivals Germany.
After an 100% record in the Victory Shield earlier this campaign, Kenny Swain and his Young Lions aren’t used to losing and came to Cologne with a winning mentality.
It ended in a narrow defeat for Swain’s lads though as they lost by a single goal in a seven goal thriller – despite taking the lead on no less than three occasions.
Isaiah Brown slotted home after 23 minutes to give England the lead but Philipp Ochs levelled things up five minutes later.
Demetri Mitchell put Swain’s team ahead again early in the second half. Max Besuschkow hit straight back for Germany though after 48 minutes.
Adam Armstrong regained the lead for England once again but this time Benjamin Henrichs equalled things up with ten minutes remaining.
The winner came when Henrichs grabbed his second four minutes later and gave Germany the victory.
