Mexico have been crowned winners of the CONCACAF U20 Championship after an extra-time win over USA at the Mexican Cuauhtemoc Stadium.
The 3-1 scoreline fairly justified a game that had been eagerly waiting for a goal throughout, but it did not arrive through normal time and additional play was required to determine Mexico the victors.
Jesus Corona got the host nation off to the perfect start after just 5 minutes but they were pegged back another 5 minutes later when Benjamin Joya converted a penalty for the United States.#
Corona was a constant threat throughout the match, while USA were denied a clear penalty that could have gifted them the win.
But as extra-time loomed, the sides had their team talks and came out fresh with Julio Gomez giving Mexico the lead 10 minutes into the additional period with a stunning bicycle kick – the goal will be a strong candidate for goal of the tournament.
Jorge Espericueta finished the game by scoring the third when he netted from the penalty spot after Corona won a late penalty.
Take a look at Gomez’ bicycle kick against the USA.
