Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Phil Jones will not take part in this summer’s European Under 21 Championship in Israel.
Senior manager Roy Hodgson believes that the trio are established members of his side and should not drop down to Stuart Pearce’s contingent.
Jack Butland, Jordan Henderson, Kyle Walker, Danny Welbeck and Steven Caulker have all received a senior call-up but are eligible to play for the Under 21 side.
Speaking at the European Soccerex Forum in Manchester, Hodgson said: “If a player has played regularly and consistently for the national team, he doesn’t go back and play for the Under-21s.
” Someone like Jack Wilshere, Phil Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been bonafide members of my squad from the day I take the job. There has been no problem in that respect and Stuart accepts that.”
