Italy are the first team to reach the final of the European Under 17 Championship in Slovakia after beating the host nation 2-0 this afternoon.
The Slovakians have been in impressive form on home soil so far in the tournament but were undone by two goals that came with a hint of luck for the Italians but nevertheless did a sufficient job to propel them into the final.
Mario Pugliese opened the scoring after only three minutes when a long ball found Luca Vido and he had the easy task of squaring for Pugliese who netted from close range.
Alberto Cerri was the main threat to the Slovakian defence throughout the first half as Italy dominated.
Martin Junas did well to keep Italy’s further chances out but eventually conceded a second on 64 minutes as Elio Capradossi doubled Italy’s lead.
Russia and Sweden’s semi final encounter kicks off at 7.30 to see who will join the Italians in Friday’s final.
