French under-20 defender Kurt Zouma is set to join Russian moneybags Anzhi Makhachkala.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool were all interested in the 18-year-old but talkSPORT have quoted that sources in France say he’s off to Russia.
It is rumoured that the Saint Etienne centre back will cost around £8.5million.
Despite this sudden interest from Anzhi, earlier in the summer Liverpool was apparently Zouma’s preferred choice of destination. His agent, David Vanditelli, told Eurosport France: “Playing in the Europa League is a prospect that pleases him. But Liverpool and other clubs are very interesting.
“He could leave to sit on the bench, but it is better to be on the bench of a big club like Liverpool, with all due respect to Saint Etienne.”
Liverpool will be particularly disappointed with this news, as it emerged yesterday that they appear to have lost out on Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, who favoured a move to Monaco.
