Jack Butland says players should relish the chance of impressing in this summer’s European Under 21 Championship
He is expected to start in goal tomorrow for England as they play their opening game against Italy.
Butland has already made one senior appearance for Roy Hodgson’s men, coincidentally against Italy. He was picked for Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad but did not make an appearance. However, over the summer he was a key part of Great Britain’s Olympic football team.
“Its a great stage to show people what you’re about,” Butland told FATV.
“There’s no senior tournament this summer so there will be a hell of a lot of eyes on this tournament and some fantastic players.
“There’s a lot of players in the under 21 squad that haven’t had the chance to go to the seniors yet but I’m sure have the ability to do so.
“It’s a great opportunity for everyone to show what they’re about and that’s always round the corner if you impress the right people so certainly it’s a great stage to play on.”
