Holland Under 21s Thrash Russia To Advance

Holland-RussiaHolland secured their place in the European Under 21 Championship semi-finals after convincingly beating Russia 5-1 in their second group game.

They avoided a crucial head to head with Spain on the final matchday thanks to the Spanish victory over Germany, who Holland beat in their opening group game.

Nikita Chicherin put the Russians down to ten men for a late challenge at the start of the second half, but by then the Dutch were already one nil up, so effectively the damage had already been done and Holland knew they’d be parading into the last four.

Georginio Wijnaldum opened the scoring to leave Russia trailing in the second half and goals from Luuk De Jong, Ola John, Danny Hoesen and Leroy Fer completed the rout.
