France and Uruguay March Into FIFA U20 World Cup Final

France will play Uruguay in the final of the FIFA U20 World Cup on Saturday following respective semi-final wins this evening.

France were first up in this evening’s earlier kick off and narrowly defeated Ghana, who they thrashed on the opening day of the tournament.

Florian Thauvin grabbed a double for the French, either side of a goal by Ebenezer Assufiah, to send them through as 2-1 winners.

Uruguay narrowly edged Iraq in a penalty shootout to secure their final place.

Iraq took the lead against Uruguay by a perfectly hit Ali Adnan free kick from a tight angle. But Gonzalo Bueno hit back in the 87th minute to send the game to extra-time.

A goalless additional period saw a penalty shootout beckon and after 15 penalties, Iraq hit the 16th over the crossbar to see Uruguay win 7-6.

Watch video highlights of the France v Ghana game below, and Ali Adnan’s free-kick for Iraq below that.

Further reaction and a preview of the final is to come in the coming days.
