Arsenal fans got their first glimpse of new signing Yaya Sanogo this afternoon as he started against Galatasaray in the Emirates Cup final.
Arsenal lost the tie 2-1 thanks to two Didier Drogba goals but for anyone betting on the Premier League once its underway, it might be worth keeping tabs on the Frenchman.
The 20-year-old, who won the FIFA U20 World Cup with France over the summer months, looked bright until he was replaced midway through the second half by Oliver Giroud.
Despite another summer of relative transfer inactivity from Arsene Wenger, Gunners fans have reason to be hopeful of Sanogo’s potential.
He’s already proven himself in France, scoring nine times in 13 appearances after coming back from injury in the second half of last season for Auxerre.
Wenger previously said: “Sanogo is a good young signing for us. He has shown that he has potential with his recent performances for Auxerre and also for the France Under-20 side.
“We are looking forward to Yaya joining us and continuing his promising development.”
Maybe not the polished model then, but certainly eyebrows will be raised this season at the youngster and what he could bring in a few years time to the Emirates.
Arsenal’s league season kicks off against Aston Villa in just under two weeks time. Sanogo could earn himself a call-up to the squad if the North Londoners fail to sign another striker in that period.
