UEFA Youth League: Man City And Arsenal Record Convincing Wins

Manchester United couldn’t make it six points out of six as they went down 2-1 to Shakhtar Donetsk in yesterday’s UEFA Youth League fixture.

Olexandr Zinchenko’s free-kick deflected in off Liam Grimshaw to put Donetsk 1-0 up early on before James Wilson equalised for Nicky Butt’s side.

Olexandr Zinchenko grabbed Donetsk’s winner three minutes from time to prevent United from joining Real Sociedad on six points in the group.

Sociedad thrashed Leverkusen after coming from one goal behind to win 5-1 in Germany.

Maximillian Wagener put the Germans in front after 8 minutes but goals from Jon Bautista (2), Andoni Gorosabel, Martin Merquelanz and Eneko Capilla gave the Spanish side a convincing victory away from home.

Chuba Akpom and Austin Lipman both grabbed braces as Arsenal won 4-1 against Napoli. Gerardo Rubino gave Napoli some hope but Arsenal were always firmly in control. “I was very pleased with the style of football we played, and obviously getting four goals against top-level opposition was a real positive,” Arsenal manager Steve Gatting said.

Manchester City thrashed Bayern Munich in Group D by six goals, including a Marco Lopes hat-trick.

Jason Denayer, George Glendon and Devante Cole grabbed the other goals for Patrick Vieira’s side.

The other fixture in their group saw CSKA Moscow beat Viktoria Plzen 5-0.

In Group B, Juventus beat Galatasaray 3-1 and Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Copenhagen.

Paris Saint Germain lost 4-1 to Benfica on home turf in Group C.

Ajax and AC Milan played out an exciting fixture as the Italian side narrowly won 3-2 in Holland.
