England Under 21s responded to Gareth Southgate’s plea for them to be more ruthless by smashing nine goals past San Marino last night at Shrewsbury Town.
England celebrated their biggest win at this level in 37 years and they went 1-0 up after just 13 minutes when Michael Keane headed home.
By the 20 minute mark it was three with Raheem Sterling and Danny Ings getting on the scoresheet.
James Ward-Prowse, Thomas Ince, Carl Jenkinson and Will Hughes all added goals which, with the help of Ing’s and Sterling’s second goals, made it a resounding 9-0 victory, narrowly missing out on double figures.
