Barclays U21 Premier League: Man United Suffer Derby Defeat

Jesse Lingard formed part of a frightening front five for United.

Jesse Lingard scored United’s equaliser last night but it wasn’t enough to take all three points.

Manchester United lost 2-1 to Manchester City last night in the Barclays U21 Premier League.

Greg Leigh and George Glendon grabbed City’s goals as the away side now go 3 points clear of their closest rivals.

Jesse Lingard scored the equaliser for Warren Joyce’s side just after half-time but it wasn’t enough to see United through the match.

City’s first went in when Leigh forced Sam Johnstone into an impressive save and then rose highest to net the resulting corner.

Lingard equalised when he was played through one-on-one and made no mistake in burying the ball in the back of the net.

After good work by Jordy Hiwula and Devante Cole, Glendon scored the winner with help from a slight deflection. There was no real late rally from the Reds, meaning that the blue side of Manchester would take all three points on this occasion to move them up to sixth.

Elsewhere, Bolton beat Aston Villa 3-2 yesterday evening.

After being 3-0 down with just 20 minutes remaining, the Villains almost sparked an unlikely comeback, but goals from Nathan Burke and Callum Robinson weren’t enough to salvage a point.

Bolton scored their goals through Cian Bolger and a double from Zach Clough.
