Galatasaray won the Turkish under 19 league title at the weekend with a 2-1 win over Antalyaspor.
The Turkish giants won the title with two games remaining and now have an 11 point advantage over second place Trabzonspor.
Tunahan Ergül and Enes Yilmaz scored the decisive goals for Saffet Akyuz side on Sunday afternoon.
Galatasaray u19 coach Akyuz told their official website: “Both physically and mentality, this year we had a really good squad. We have established a good squad by the league. When choosing these players, it has the ability; harmonious, respectful and open to development players have to be careful with. This association has brought us a very important achievement.
“To be champion at this age children in the future will bring a plus. We identify aspects of their game that are missing, we allow them to develop their work. It’s been a very good season for us.”
With Fenerbahce already winning the senior league, there are doubts over whether this group of players will get to represent the club in Europe next season.
Galatasaray’s first team are on course to finish second in the SuperLig so will enter the Champions League at the qualifying stage. For the youth side to compete in the UEFA Youth League, the senior side would have to win their qualifying tie to reach the group stage.
This has been a recent criticism of the UEFA Youth League’s structure and provided interesting debate when rumours of a return for the NextGen Series came forth.
In this year’s Youth League, Galatasaray finished bottom of Group B with just two points, so will be eager to impress on the continental stage next season.
