England under 17s missed out on the chance to finish top of their European Under 17 Championship group as they lost 2-0 against Holland this morning.
A spectacular goal by Calvin Verdonk and a header by substitute Dani van der Moot means John Peacock’s side finish second in the group.
England will now face Portugal in the semi-final on Sunday, whilst Netherlands will play either Germany, Scotland or Switzerland, whose fate will be decided later today.
Southampton midfielder Josh Sims had the best chance of the first-half but snatched at a shot just outside the area.
Netherlands deservedly got their goal through Verdonk. The centre back scored just five minutes into the second half with an impressive swerving shot from distance.
van der Moot got his goal after just ten seconds of coming on when he connected with Bilal Ould-Chikh’s cross.
This is England’s first defeat in the tournament – including the qualifying campaign – they previously won their last 8 fixtures.
